Hi, I’m Lyn B. Borchert.
I’m not yet retired, but close enough that I think about it almost daily.
When I was in my 20’s still trying to figure out what my life’s career was going to be, I tried many many different jobs. Mostly in the automotive and/or construction fields. As a result I learned a lot of different skills. I was never with them long enough to “master” them, but I at least learned how to do them.
Just to list a few here so you get an idea;
- Short Order Cooking
- Rough Carpentry
- Finish Carpentry
- Plumbing assistant
- Electrical assistant
- Roofing repair
- Small Concrete work
- Concrete Block Laying
- Auto Body Work
- Auto Paint
- Custom Metal Work (wire welding mostly)
Those were all things I did for a time to earn money. Before that I had many different hobbies as a teenager.
- Model Rocketry
- Model Railroading
- Macrame’
- Leather working
- Woodworking
- Ceramic crafts
- Sewing of clothes from patterns
- Crocheting
- Knitting
- Jewelry crafting
And probably a few more that I’m just not remembering right now.
It wasn’t until I was 31 years of age that I actually found the one thing that I not only enjoyed doing but I was also good at doing. Believe it or not, it was Computers. All things computers became my passion and maybe even my obsession.
Fast forward 25 years and while I still like computers a lot, I no longer have the desire to “play” with my own machines after working on other peoples’ machines all day. I’m finding that I want to “get away” from computers and high tech things for some slower paced and a little different mental exercises. Even more I feel a need to create some things in the physical world. Maybe it just me trying to relive my youth a little bit.
Whatever it is, I found that having some woodworking tools and making some useful things out of wood was very relaxing and the kind of escape I wanted. Then I found that there are a bunch of like minded people that are doing that and making videos of what they are doing.
The more I thought about it the more I thought maybe I could do that. Why? Well, it could become some extra retirement money at some point in the future if I did enough videos. So while I am doing this for my own personal enjoyment, I’m also hoping that it may help supplement my old age retirement funds which really could use some help.
